Guide to Automation: How to create factsheet templates

Kurtosys has derived a process for the creation of factsheet templates that is based around some key objectives:

1. Ensure standardisation of visual components across templates in order to maximise the level of automation

2. Integrate new design rules, including compliance recommendations

3. Determine the future state of the components, reduce complexity and enable the automation of the factsheet production process

Steps to follow:

1. Overview of current state layouts

Through an analysis of all English languages factsheets, the Kurtosys team will look to identify the number of components and unique templates used in your current solution. We will aim to identify among this, which components and templates are used most extensively, with a view to reducing complexity going forward.

2. Identify Master layout template

To allow for additional space and consolidate proportions, the Kurtosys team will aim to minimise complex layout rules and reduce these to a single master template proposal. The master layout of a factsheet page will include detailed measurements for the grid system.

3. Consolidate Component & Layout variations

Once the Master layout template has been defined, the various elements will be coordinated within the template structure to ensure alignment. The various components’ vertical space will be defined in relation to one another and the allotted space provided by the template. Refer to the example template with its component layout below to see what this will look like in practice.
